Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 19, 2009 at Fort Riley Cemetery for Gordon E. Winkleman, Sr, 79, of Junction City. The Reverend Dr. Joe Belardo will officiate. A visitation will be 6 - 8:00 p.m. Sunday, October 18, 2009, at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Funeral Chapel 203 N. Washington Street. Memorial contributions may be given to the Golden Living Care Facility in Wakefield, Kansas.
Gordon was born January 10, 1930, in Atoka, Oklahoma the son of William and Lillian Gordon Winkleman.
Gordon retired from the United States Army after 27 years of service. After retirement he worked for JC Transportaton for twelve years workins as a supervisor. He retired in 1991.
Gordon married Shirley E. Taylor-Thompson September 19,1951 in Yokahama, Japan. She passed away March 26, 2003.
Survivors include five sons, Gordon E. Winkleman, Jr. and his wife Angela of Chapman, KS, Roy Doug Winkleman and his wife Glenda of Chapman, KS, William J. Winkleman and his wife Vera of Wakefield, KS, Kenneth Nichols and his wife Beth of Junction City, KS and Tim Young and his wife Mary of Roseboro, NC. He is survived by two daughters, Shirley A. Balderson and her husband William of Wakefield, KS and Terry Ginnie and her husband Jim of Phoenix, AZ.
He is survived by 15 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren and numerous friends and family.
