Goldie M. Johnson, 87, of Junction City, passed away on February 18, 2017 at Geary Community Hospital. Visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, February 22, 2017, at the Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home with a rosary recited at 7:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place 10 a.m. Thursday, February 23, 2017 at St. Xavier Catholic Church with Fr. Gail Hammerschmidt officiating. Burial will follow the service at St. Mary's Cemetery. Memorial contributions are suggested to be given to St. Xavier Catholic Church.
Goldie was born August 10, 1929 in Aurora, KS to Ferdinand and Lorette (Bouley) Marcotte. She married Earl R. Johnson of Concordia, KS on November 27, 1954 in Salina where she had attended Brown Mackie College prior to moving to Junction City in 1956. She enjoyed raising her children before she returned to the work force. She was employed by Geary County Courthouse for 22 years, the last 8 years she served as Register of Deeds for Geary County. In 1997, she retired to stay home to enjoy her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many friends. She has been a long standing member of St. Xavier Catholic Church.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years Earl of Junction City and their four children, Douglas (Pat) Johnson of Wichita, KS; Ronald Johnson (Tracey), Donna (Geoffrey) Houser and Rhonda (Dale) Evans all of Junction City, KS; 10 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one on the way. She is also survived by two sisters, Marcelline (Gaylord) Chizek of San Luis Obispo, CA and Lorena (Jerry) Schad of Junction City, KS and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Zella Schneider; one great-grandson and three brother-in-laws.
