Graveside services for Glenn D. Parker, 71, of Junction City, will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, August 3, 2011 at Kansas Veterans' Cemetery with full military honors and Reverend Dr. Joe Belardo will officiate. Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 2, 2011, 6p.m.-8p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Mass-Hinitt Chapel, 805 Caroline Avenue. Mr. Parker passed away on July 27, 2011 at Memorial Hospital, Abilene, KS. Memorial contributions have been designated to the 40 & 8 Nurses Training Program in care of the funeral home.
Mr. Parker was born June 9, 1940, Cordell, OK to George D. and Bobbie N. (Delay) Parker. He joined the U S Army June 3, 1957, Dallas, TX, he served in Vietnam and received a Purple Heart, the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross w/palm, Good Conduct Medal (5th Award), the Army Commendation Medal with/1 oak leaf cluster, Combat Infantry Badge, Bronze Star Medal w/1 oak leaf cluster, National Defense Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal w/two Silver Service Stars and the Civil Action Honor Medal, he retired as a SSG June 30, 1977 at Fort Riley, KS.
He was a member of the American Legion, 40&8, the VFW, DAV and the Eagles.
He is survived by a sister, Georgia Templet of Denton, TX and his friend Patricia DeGraaff of Herington, KS.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
