Funeral services for Gladys M. Riffel, 96, of Woodbine, KS will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, December 30, 2010 at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel, 203 N. Washington Street, Junction City, with Pastor Carol Moore-Ramey officiating burial will follow at Woodbine Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 29, 2010, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel. Mrs. Riffel passed away on December 26, 2010 at Pioneer Ridge Nursing Home, Lawrence, KS. Memorial contributions have been designated to the Woodbine Methodist Church, P.O. Box 126, Woodbine, KS 67492 or to the Lyona Methodist Church, 1850 Wolf Rd., Junction City, KS 66441.
Mrs. Riffel was born February 13, 1914, Woodbine, KS to Edward and Elsie (Staatz) Brehm. She was known by many for the beautiful wedding cakes that she made. She also worked very hard in the fields during the harvest season and managed to prepare homemade meals several times a day for at least four to six men during the harvest.
She married James S. Riffel, August 15, 1934, Woodbine, KS he preceded her in death July 27, 1986.
She is survived by her niece Judy Langvardt and husband Duane of St. Louis, MO and nephew, Tom Riffel and wife Laura of Overland Park, KS and several other nieces and nephews and other extended family members.
She was also preceded in death by her parents.
Pallbearers will be Jake Winchell, Mike Langvardt, Scott Winchell, Mike Gfeller, Brandon Riffel and Scott Eggleston.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Larry Langvardt, Loren Langvardt, Bryan Riffel and Dave Langvardt.
Organist will be Florence Whitebread and Soloist will be Ken Martin.
