Gisela Edmonds, 76, Junction City, died on Friday, March 16, 2012 at Mercy Regional Health Center in Manhattan. Cremation has taken place with the assistance of the Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel. A graveside memorial service at Fort Riley Cemetery will be held at a later date. The family has suggested memorial contributions be made to the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary,Post #45, 201 E. 4th St., Junction City, KS 66441.
Gisela was born on August 18, 1935 in Frankfort, Germany to Franz and Marie (Drodt) Schmenger. She spent most of her early childhood and also attended school in Germany.
Gisela met John Edmonds during his military station in Germany in 1956 and was married not long after in Germany. Shortly after their marriage, she immigrated to the United States with John and began living in Cincinnati, Ohio. John's final military assignment took them to Fort Riley, KS where they made their home until John was discharged from the military. Gisela and John lived in Junction City for many years. John preceded her in death on April 24, 1993.
Gisela had a special passion for playing Bingo and for tending to her garden. She took a very special pride in her yard and in her beautiful flowers.
She is survived by one son, John Edmonds of New York, NY; one sister, Marie Arnold of Gross-Gerau, Germany, one niece, Deby Barr of Columbus, Ohio; and special friends, Cindy Pearson and Rick and Rose Geike, all of Grandview Plaza. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Edmonds, and by one brother, Ortwin Schmenger.
