Gertrude Stamper, 74, of Junction City died on Wednesday, July 25, 2012 at Abilene Memorial Hospital. A funeral service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at the Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel, 203 N. Washington St. with Pastor Ronnie Roberts officiating. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. until service time on Tuesday, July 31, 2012 also at the Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel. Cremation will take place following the service. Memorial contributions have been designated to the American Cancer Society, 1315 SW Arrowhead Rd., Topeka, KS 66604.
Gertrude was born on September 18, 1937 in Munich, Germany to Joseph and Maria (Roessner) Bauer. She attended schools in her homeland of Germany and spent most of her early childhood there.
Gertrude spent the last 30 years of her life with her beloved friend Robert Miller, who survives of the home in Junction City.
One of her greatest joys in life was her love of birds. She loved to watch them, she loved to feed them and she loved to care for them.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory one son, Allan Bauer and wife Monica of Tucson, AZ, her friend Robert Miller of Junction City, KS, two grandchildren, Michael Nitsch and Jessica Bauer of Tucson, AZ, and one brother, Degenhard Bauer of Munich, Germany.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Maria Bauer, by her brother, Hartmud Bauer, and by her sister, Gerlinde Bauer.
