Gertie Mae Mciver Williams

Gertie Mae McIver Williams, 74, of Junction City, KS died peacefully in her sleep July 24, 2017 at Seasons Hospice & Palliative Care Inpatient Center in Dallas, Texas.

Family will be greeting friends Friday, July 28, 6:00pm to 8:00pm at the Penwell-Gabel Funeral home, 203 N. Washington St. in Junction City.

A celebration of Life will be held at The New Church of the Living God, 1315 W. Ash St. in Junction City with Pastor James E. Johnson officiating.

Burial will follow after service at the Mount Auburn Cemetery off of S.E. California Ave. in Topeka, Kansas.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society, 1315 S.W. Arrowhead Rd. in Topeka, KS 66604.

Mother McIver Williams was born February 11, 1943 in Topeka, Kansas to the late Florence E. Steele (McIver) and Williams McIver. She is survived by her 4 children; Haroleroy A. Rentie, Twillow Campbell, Treniece Campbell (husband Allen), TaLisa Pollard (husband Van Kelly). 8 Grandchildren and 12 Great Grandchildren.

Little Gertie confessed Christ at an early age of 12 at Antioch Baptist Church in Topeka, Kansas. Along her journey traveled with Christ she attended the following churches: Custer Hill/Morris Hill Chapel, Fort Riley; First Church of God; Holy Temple, Junction City and was an active member at New Church of the Living God. She served on many auxiliaries to include President of the Women's Ministry, Minister of Care and Hospitality, Sunday school teacher, Director of Children and Youth Group and served as an usher.

Gertie Mae completed school in Topeka at Washington Grade School, East Topeka Jr. High and Topeka High School and Washburn University. She also attended Kansas State University. She was employed with St. Francis Hospital, Capital Federal, USD 501, USD 475, State of Kansas, JTPA (Heartland Works), North Central Flint Hills Area on Aging, Open Door and Express Employment Professionals.

Her most favored accomplishment was completed after being diagnosed with Breast Cancer in September 2001. Gertie Mae founded the following cancer organizations and support groups:
"Friends of Hope Breast Cancer Support Group" May 2002
"Circle of Friends Cancer Support Group" May 2002
"It's About Me", Breast Cancer Awareness Association February 2003

As she continued to gain understanding and educate other survivors, she was later diagnosed with Small Cell Lung Cancer in December 2006. Continuing on her journey to be a faithful servant, Gertie Mae served on the following community committees; Kiwanis United, Flint Hills Job Corps Community Relations Council, Junction City NAACP, Chamber of Commerce Ad Hoc, Flint Hills Prevention Coalition, Junction City/Geary County Human Resources and served as Board Member to Konza Prairie Health and Dental Center and Community Health.
