Geraldine D. Turner, 84, of Junction City passed away at Mercy Regional Hospital on December 27, 2011. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at Second Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Leonard Gray officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday, January 2, 2012 from 6p.m. to 8p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Mass-Hinitt Chapel, 805 Caroline Avenue. Memorial contributions may be given to Second Missionary Baptist Church, 701 W. 10th Street, Junction City, KS 66441.
Geraldine was born June 26, 1927, Herington, KS to Samuel S. and Ruth M. (Raigans) Johnson. She attended Emporia State Teachers College.
She worked a total of 45 years with Civil Service at Fort Riley as Director of Recreation Services and her final position being a counselor at Army Community Services. She had received numerous awards from Fort Riley during her tenure. She retired in 1999.
She was a past member of the NAACP and was a current member of the Junction City Community Choir and was the oldest member of Second Missionary Baptist Church. During her 72 year membership she served as Minister of Music, Sunday School Teacher, Choir Director and was the Trustee Secretary and served on the board of Christian Education.
She loved to do Arts and crafts and spend time with her family.
She is survived by her son Mark S. Turner of DeSoto, TX, two daughters; Cynthia Pasley and Brenda Turner-Slaughter both of Junction City, seven grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, her God Son, Jerry Boyd and God Daughter, Michelle Reese.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and two sisters.
