He was born on April 5, 1956, to Dale and Wilma (Rothfuss) Rumbaugh in Concordia, Kansas. He was the middle child between his brothers, Larry and Terry. He always had fond stories of them growing up together.
After graduating in 1974, from Junction City High School, he attended college at Mid-American Nazarene College and graduated from Southern Nazarene University in 1980, with a Bachelors degree in business.
While at SNU, he met his future wife and they married September 27, 1980, in Bethany, Oklahoma and shared 43 years together. They raised two daughters together and made their home in Junction City.
He enjoyed fishing, his grandchildren, and assisting with the children's ministry. While the girls were growing up, he hauled their horses to many horse shows, made sure pancakes were made on the weekends, and maintained a beautiful acreage and home.
