Gerald L. "Jerry" Vincent
Gerald L. "Jerry" Vincent, 85, of Junction City, passed away at his home on Sept. 26, 2014. The son of Ben and Eva Sandbourn Vincent, Jerry was born on Oct. 27, 1928 in Montrose, Michigan.
Jerry attended school in Michigan, and completed his education in the Army. Jerry enlisted in the Army in 1946 and spent over 22 years in the military. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, and retired as Sgt. First Class (P) in 1968. Jerry was awarded the National Defense Service Medal w/OLC, Good Conduct Medal (Sixth Award), Army Commendation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. After his retirement from the Army, Jerry worked at Montgomery Ward, and later worked for 16 years as Materials Manager at Geary Community Hospital.
Jerry was a member of St. Xavier Catholic Church, Geary County Fish and Game, the Founder's Club at Whittington Center, Raton, New Mexico, and the National Rifle Assn. Jerry was a certified N.R.A. instructor for Shotgun, Pistol, and Rifle. Jerry was also a private pilot, and had his multi-Engine Rating with the F.A.A. Jerry also enjoyed riding his motorcycle.
Jerry married Celina Lucero on Sept. 23, 1954 at Ft. Carson, Colo. She survives. Other survivors include many very close friends.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 2, 2014 at St. Xavier Catholic Church, with Fr. Kerry Ninemire presiding. A committal service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 2, at Kansas Veterans' Cemetery at Ft. Riley, Manhattan. Military Honors will be presented by the U.S. Army Honor Guard from Ft. Riley. A visitation will be Wednesday evening, 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m, with a rosary service being recited at 7:00 p.m., at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel, Junction City.
Memorial contributions may be given to St. Xavier Catholic Church, Junction City.
