Services with military honors for Gerald "Jerry" D. Osburn, 77, of Junction City will be Saturday, February 7, 10:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church with Reverend Paul Wolf officiating and Reverend Dr. Bert Buurman officiating. Burial will be at Askren Cemetery, Woodson County, KS at 3:00 p.m. Visitation will be Friday, February 6, 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel. Memorial Contributions may be given to the First United Methodist Church, 804 N. Jefferson, Junction City, KS 66441.
Jerry was born January 2, 1927 near Norwich, KS to Clark Tucker and Jennie Viola (Cooley) Osburn, he grew up in Whitewater, KS area, graduating from Whitewater High School in 1944. In 1945 he moved with his family to a rarm near Yates Center, KS. He enlisted in the U S Army January 16, 1946. After completing basic training at Fort Knox, KY, he was selected to attend Officers Candidate School, at Fort Knox, graduating second in his class. He retired May 30, 1968 at Fort Riley, having proudly served his country in Japan, korea, Alaska, Germany and various army bases in the states. He also retired from Federal Civil Service at Fort Riley, July 30, 1988 with 20 more years of service to the U S Army.
He married Dorothy Faye Harding, December 30, 1949 at the Evangelical United Brethren Church, Yates Center, KS. He was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church of Junction City, serving on many committees, taught Sunday School, helped sponsor youth fellowship and helped wherever needed.
He is survived by his wife; Dorothy of Junction City, two sons; Kelly Dean Osburn of Grandview Plaza and Lynn Gerald Osburn of Gridley, KS, one brother; Robert L. Osburn of Yates Center, one sister; Janice Hiestand of Arvada, CO, two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother; Gary L. Osburn
