Funeral services for Staff Sergeant E-6 (Ret) Gerald A. Bogear, 91, Junction City, KS will be 1:00pm, Friday, September 11, 2009 at the New Testament Christian Church, 211 West 13th with Pastor Douglas Sewell officiating. Burial will follow with full military honors at Fort Riley Post Cemetery.Visitation will be from 6pm-8pm Thursday, September 10, 2009 at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel, 203 N. Washington.

Mr. Bogear passed away peacefully September 4, 2009 at Valley View Senior Life Center with his son Ralph and daugher Beverly at his side.

Gerald was born June 11, 1918 in Garrett, Indiana to Ralph and Olga (Stoehr) Bogear. His military career began in 1937. He served in Germany and France during World War II and later served in Korea (2 tours), Germany, and Viet Nam. In 1973 he retired from the U.S. Army in Junction City, Kansas with several years in the Reserves and 21 years of active duty.

Over the years Gerald gave much of his time to serving others. He was a member of Noon Kiwanis for 35 years. Other organizations he gave his time and service included Special Olympics, Salvation Army, Red Cross, React, and M.A.R.S. He had a lifetime interest amateur radio, enjoyed camping with Good Sam, and service to his church after attending the Walk to Emmaus at 80 years of age.

Gerald married Helen Ruth Johnson August 14, 1942 at the First United Methodist Church in Auburn, Indiana. She proceeded him in death June 16, 1985.

He was also preceeded in death by his parents, and two sisters, Roberta Jacquay and Henrietta Bertie.

He is survived by his Daughter, Beverly Finseth and husband Ian of Dallas, Oregon; Son, Michael of Junction City, Kansas; Son, Ralph of Junction City, Kansas; Brother Lee Bogear of California: five Grand Children; Eric Finseth of Dallas, Oregon; Heather Pillsbury and husband Scott of Silver Lake, Washington; Amy Finseth of Seattle, Washington; Christine Sim and husband Graham of Roswell, New Mexico; Shawn Bogear of Clovis, New Mexico; five Great-grand children and two step Great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Special Olympics, C/O John Haggerty, 429 Maple, Junction City, Kansas and/or New Testament Christian Church and Servicemen's Home.
