Funeral Services for George W. Mailen Jr., 89, Junction City, will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, February 14, 2006 at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel with Pastor Ronnie Roberts officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. Mr. Mailen passed away February 11, 2006 at Geary Community Hospital. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m., Monday, February 13, 2006 at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel. Mr. Mailen was born in Salina, KS October 4, 1916 to George W. and Hattie (Grassberger) Mailen, Sr. At the age of four, his parents moved to Junction City where he spent his entire life. He graduated from Junction City High School in 1936. Following graduation he worked for the late William Deppish at the Coca-Cola Plant.
He was a veteran of World War II and a member of American Legion Post #45, a member of First Christian Church where he had served as a deacon, and a Scout Master of Troop 63.
In 1974 he retired from Civil Service Post Engineers as an Engineer Aide. Following retirement he worked as an inspector for the City. He spent his retirement enjoying his family, woodworking, collecting antiques and taking trips traveling around scenic rural Kansas. He was a caring man who treasured his family and friends and especially those who cared for him during last illness.
On March 2, 1941 he married Norma Gfeller of Chapman in Kansas City, KS. She survives at the home. George is survived by two sons Douglas, wife Peggy of Winchester, KS and Gregory, wife Debbie of Chattanooga, TN, four grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Jon Kenneth, and one sister, Evelyn Henning.
Pallbearers will be John Durbon, Carl Carriaga, Marty McCallister, Kenneth Goreham, Tom Nible and John Jameson.
