CSM (Retired) George G. Terry, 77, of Junction City, died May 3, 2014 at his home. He was born Dec. 31, 1936 in Warrenton, N.C., the son of Steven & Nancy P. (Bryant) Terry. He attended schools in Warrenton, and graduated from John R. Hawkins High School in Warrenton in the Class of 1953. He later graduated from Upper Iowa University in 2009 with a B.S. in Business.
George entered the military shortly after his high school graduation and spent 30 years in the U.S. Army, retiring in 1984. After retiring, he worked at Ft. Riley in the Civilian Personnel Office. He later worked at Wal-Mart in Junction City.
George was a member of the 2nd Missionary Baptist Church, VFW Post #8773, the Earl C. Gormley Post #45 of the American Legion, the Sgt. Major Assn., the Kaw Blue Lodge #107 PHA, and the Veterans Alliance. George was also a 33rd Degree Mason with the Nathan W. Thatcher Consistory.
George married Betty Williams on Dec. 26, 1955 in Warrenton, N.C. She survives.
Others survivors include: a son, Larry T.C. Williams, Tacoma, WA.; 2 daughters, Shelia D. Terry and Phyllis L. Terry, both of Junction City; 4 grandchildren, Heather Williams, Crystal Doty, Cortney Davison, and Sean Rohan; and 7 great grandchildren, Lorenzo, Isiah, Isabella, Elias, Amaiya, Aleah, and Sean, Jr. George was preceded in death by his parents, and a son, George G. Terry, Jr. in 1971.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, May 8, 2014 at the Second Missionary Baptist Church with Paster Redo Purnell presiding. Burial will be at Kansas Veterans Cemetery with full military honors provided by the U.S. Army Honor Guard from Ft. Riley. The family will greet friends on Wednesday, May 7, 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel, 203 N. Washington, Junction City.
