George John Nelly

George John Nelly, 68, Junction City, KS, passed away Sunday, September 26, 2021 at the Geary Community Hospital. A graveside service with military honors will take place 10 a.m. Friday, October 15, 2021 at the Kansas Veterans' Cemetery. A Celebration of Life and Open House will take place 4p.m. Saturday, October 16, 2021 at the Junction City Elk's Lodge #1037, 723 S. Washington Street Junction City, KS.

George was born October 19, 1952, Bochum, Germany the son of Evert and Greta (Gniech) Nelly.

George graduated from Junction City High School. After graduating from high school, he joined the United States Army where he was honorably discharged. After his discharge, he worked for Mobile Travelers and Woolworths in Junction City. He later went to work for DRMO at Fort Riley where he worked for twenty six years prior to his retirement in 2016.

George was a member of the Junction City Elk's Lodge #1037 and the Fraternal Order of The Eagles Lodge # 830. He enjoyed fishing, boating, hunting, camping basically any outdoor activities. George enjoyed a good game of horse shoes and was known of being the horse shoe "Champ".

One of his greatest joys was being with his two children. He helped coach his son Jason's flag football and baseball teams as a young boy. George doted on his daughter Melissa and would never miss a dance recital. He enjoyed sharing his own passions with both of his children and was extremely proud of the adults they have become and their families.

He married the love of his life Kathryn McGowan December 10, 1973, in Junction City. They had numerous adventures together during their 47 years of marriage.

Survivors include his wife Kathryn of the home in Junction City; one son, Jason Nelly and his wife Teresa of Omaha, NE; one daughter, Melissa Nelly-Cramer and her husband Michael of Shawnee, KS; four grandchildren, Jayden and Tatum Nelly and Buddy and Monroe Cramer; one brother, Manfred Nelly and his wife Pam; one brother-in-law, Robbie McGowan. He is also survived by numerous loyal friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his six beloved four legged friends, Ransom, Beau, Austa, Bowden, Nikka and Jacks.
