GEORGE E. MARCUS
George E. Marcus, Sr., 83, of Junction City, passed away on April 3, 2014 at Geary Community Hospital.
A graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 11, 2014 at Highland Cemetery.
He was born on August 29, 1930, at Ft. Riley, Kansas, the son of Harry and Nellie (Jones) Marcus.
George married Delores Whitson on Oct. 28, 1951 in Junction City. She died August 4, 2010.
George is survived by five sons, George (Gloria) Marcus, Jr., Junction City, Michael (Cyndi) Marcus, Naples, Fl., Steven (Sharon) Marcus, Junction City, Gregory (Sherri) Marcus, Topeka, and Patrick (Denise) Marcus, Edgerton; a sister, Geraldine Waggoner, Juncton City; 10 grandchildren, George III "Troy" , Megan, Andrew, Amanda, Shane, Jaron, Ivy, Caleb, Julia, and Lisa; and 11 great-grandchildren, Trake, Luke, Cyprian, Lincoln, Logan, Faith, Brittnay, Michael, Alicia, Nicholas, and Lillian. George was preceded in death by his father, Harry S. Marcus; his mother, Nellie A. Marcus; a brother, Fred Hall; a sister, Harriet A. Pape; 2 grandsons, Dillon and Christopher Marcus; and a great-granddaughter, Madelyn Dae Rohr.
George retired in 1976 after 28 years of Civil Service work at Ft. Riley. Shortly after he retired, he purchased and ran Acker's Smokehouse and Pool Hall. As his sight failed, he attended the Kansas Institute for the Blind in Topeka and then managed a cafeteria in Topeka for 5 years. George and Delores had been members of Buckles and Bow's square dance club. In his younger years, he and his brother, Fred, enjoyed many hours of fishing.
