Memorial services for George William "Willie" Campbell, 84, Junction City, KS will be 10a.m., Monday, August 25, 2008 at Penwell-Gabel Mass-Hinitt Chapel, 805 Caroline Avenue with Father Dale Plummer officiating. Cremation is planned. Inurnment will take place at a later date at Wilsey Cemetery. George passed away August 20, 2008 at Geary Community Hospital. No visitation is planned. George was born August 17, 1924 in Wetumka, OK the son of George W. and Ethyl Mary (Torry) Campbell. He served in the US Navy during WWII and also spent a year in Vietnam as a civilian employee of the US Army. He worked for Civil Service retiring after many years in the post maintenance shop. He and Edith were active in Shrine activities. They were long time members of the ISIS Nomads, and their RV equipment provided many camp-outs with longtime friends.
George married Edith Ekstrum of Wilsey, KS on September 18, 1948. Edith died in 2002. A child, Jon was born and died in November 1959. He was also preceded in death by his parents, a sister Nellie Miller, and four brothers.
Survivors include a sister Jeanie Sadlier of Peoria, AZ; niece Christine and husband Warren Hatfield, Wichita, Ks; sister-in-law Dorothy Forsberg, Wichita, KS., and a number of nieces and nephews.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Craig Paxton, Carl Ehlers, Ernie Sanders, Ted Hayden, Mark Junghans and Jay Brown.
