SFC (RET) George F. Ahlers, 81, of Junction City, passed away on Sunday, July 25, 2021 at Valley View Senior Life Center. Cremation has taken place. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, August 6, 2021, at the Kansas Veterans' Cemetery. The family will receive friends 5-7 p.m. Thursday, August 5, 2021, at the Johnson Funeral Home. Memorial donations are suggested to be given to the Junction City Animal Shelter.
George was born April 23, 1940, in Cincinnati, OH the son of Joseph Henry and Lavina Marie Ahlers.
George married Wilma Elaine Goertz on January 11, 1964, in Wabasha, MN. She passed away August 28, 2013.
George and Wilma moved to Junction City in 1980 while George was stationed in the United States Army. He retired from the Unites States Army in 1981. While serving in the Army, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with four bronze stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Expert (M-16 Rifle) Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm and the Meritorious Service Medal.
He later worked as a Deputy with the Geary County Sheriff's Department. He also worked as a Hall Monitor at Fort Riley Middle School.
He is survived by one daughter, Dawn "Dee" Goudey and her husband Tom; one son, Bill Ahlers and his wife Cindy all of Junction City, KS; four grandchildren, Amanda Small and her husband Jake, Ashley Svaty and her husband James, Ariana and Chase Ahlers; one great-granddaughter, Addison Small; two brothers, Tom Ahlers and Joe Ahlers; two sisters, Vinie Krause and Char Katenkamp; a host of nephews, nieces and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Wilma, three brothers and two sisters.
