Genevieve Ann Junghans, 100, of Junction City, died January 30, 2018 at Geary Community Hospital. Genevieve was born October 16, 1917 at Bala, KS, the daughter of Harrison (Tom) and Bernice N. (Thomas) Woodbury. She graduated from Milford High School and in 1939 completed her Registered Nursing degree from Halstead Hospital School of Nursing in Halstead, KS.
After graduation, she was a private duty nurse for a year, and later a surgical nurse a St. Luke's Hospital in Wellington, KS. She later served as a First Aid Nurse at Beech Aircraft in Wichita, KS. She later served 7 years as the Geary County Public Health Nurse before she retired from nursing in 1951.
She and her husband Ed owned and operated Ed's Motel, Inc. from 1960 to 1976, when they retired.
Genevieve was a member of the Milford Congregational Church until 1947, when she joined Immanuel Lutheran Church in Junction City. She was also a member of the Happy Homemakers Club since 1951.
Genevieve married Lt. John J. Wyckoff, U.S. Army Air Corp, in March, 1942. Lt. Wyckoff was killed in action on a B-17 Bomber in May 1944.
She later married Edwin E. Junghans on August 31, 1947 in Milford. Ed died July 29, 2004.
Survivors include: a son, Gregory E. Junghans and his wife Pat, Manhattan; a daughter, Jane A. Liberator and her husband Matt, Overland Park; and 2 grandchildren, Chase Junghans and Jaclyn Liberator . Genevieve was preceded in death by husbands Lt. John Wyckoff and Ed Junghans; a sister, Thelma Lindquist; and a grandson Grant Junghans.
The family will greet friends, Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2018, 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m., at the Penwell-Gabel Junction City Funeral Chapel. A private family graveside will be at a later date at Milford Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church in Genevieve's name.
