Funeral services for Frieda Stewart, 81 of Junction City will be Thursday, March 25, 2010 at 10 a.m. at the Zion United Church of Christ with Pastor Russ Glaser officiating. Burial will follow at Kansas Veterans' Cemetery in Manhattan, KS. Visitation will be Wednesday, March 24, 2010 from 6-8 pm at the Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel, 203 N. Washington St. Mrs. Stewart passed away on Friday, March 19, 2010 at Brookestone Village in Omaha, NE. Memorial contributions may be given to the Zion United Church of Christ, 1811 McFarland Road, Junction City, KS 66441.
Frieda was born November 21, 1928 in Augsburg, Germany to Joseph & Frieda Stangl. She later married James L. "Jimmy" Stewart on February 5, 1963 in Augsburg, Germany.
She was a Civil Service employee at Ft. Riley, working at the Ft. Riley commissary, TISSA, and the laundry. Frieda was always known as a most compassionate and giving woman. She was never so proud as when she was blessed with three beautiful granddaughters.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 46 years, Jimmy Stewart and her parents, and four brothers and one sister.
Frieda is survived by her son, Mike and wife Paulette of Omaha, NE, three grandchildren, Breanna, Sabrina and Sophie. Her sister, Helga Stevens of Salinas, California , three nieces, Vernice Kelley, Helga Ralston Stevens, Cathy Stevens, and two nephews, Ronnie Stevens and Kenny Stevens.
Pallbearers will be Roscoe Maycroft, Mike Rhodes, Nick Rhodes, BJ Powers, Andrew King and Mark Powers.
Honorary Pallbearers are James Rhodes, Ronald Yoders and Ronnie Shank.
