Funeral services for Frances (Dougan) "Fritz" Eastham, 89, of Junction City, KS will be Tuesday, May 24, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel with Pastor Jan Kimbrell officiating. Visitation will be Monday, May 23, 2005, 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel. Burial will be at Highland Cemetery. Mrs. Eastham passed away May 20, 2005 at Select Specialty Hospital, Topeka, KS. Memorial contributions may be given to the First United Methodist Church, 804 N. Jefferson, Junction City, KS 66441 and/or Order of the Eastern Star, Melita Chapter 116, c/o Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel, P.O. Box 826, Junction City, KS 66441.
Mrs. Eastham was born July 3, 1915, rural Council Grove, KS to Charles F. and Maude B. (Nott) Dougan. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, a member of Junction City Area of Retired Teachers, and 67 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star Melita Chapter 116. Her 33 years of teaching include, Garner Country School near White City, Wilsey Grade School and Washington Grade School in Council Grove all in Morris County. She taught one year in Argonia, KS. Her last 28 years of teaching were in Junction City with 25 years being at Lincoln Elementary.
She also worked as a file clerk during World War II at the Kansas Ordinance Plant and a bookkeeper for the Grab Hardware Store. She was very musical, playing "Jesus Loves Me" on the piano at the age of three. She composed six songs of which her first composition "Blue Lagoon" has been Copy written and has been filed in the Library of Congress in Washington D.C. since 1936. She also has the sheet music of "Smilin Ike from Abilene" in the Eisenhower Library in Abilene, KS.
She married Kenneth Eastham, May 16, 1947, Junction City, KS, he preceded her in death November 13, 1988.
She is survived by one sister, Marta Schweitzer of Junction City and one brother, James Dougan of Cedar Rapids, IA, four nephews, seven nieces, 12 great nephews and four great nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters, Irene Glancy, Faye Hathaway, Agatha Patterson and Fern Greer, one nephew, Jimmy Dougan.
Pallbearers will be Rob Patterson, Jay Hathaway, Dee Simmons and Bob Greer.
