Floyd "Putt" A. Engstrom, 86, of Junction City passed away on February 4, 2004 at Valley View Professional Care Center. Memorial services will be held Monday, February 9, at 2:00 p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Mass-Hinitt Chapel, Reverend Dr. Aurelio Belardo will officiate. Cremation will take place with inurnment at a later date at Dwight Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be given to the American Lung Association, 4300 Drury Lane, Topeka, KS 66604.
Floyd was born July 20, 1917 at the Tully Horse Ranch, Geary County, to Casper W. and Emma Pearl (Amthauer) Engstrom. He was drafted into the Army March 3, 1942, serving in WWII, he was an observer with Recon Company. With the exception of his time served in the Army, he was a lifelong resident of Junction City. He was a member of the American Legion Post #45 for 46 years and the Fraternal Order of Eagles, #830. Floyd was a long distance truck driver with State Distributors from 1960 to 1985 in which he retired.
He married Hazel Powell, April 28, 1945 at Cardiff, Wales, they divorced in 1984.
He is survived by two sons; Greg F. Engstrom of Fort Worth, TX, David B. Engstrom of Lawrence, two daughters; Tami E. Law of Topeka, Jayne M. Karmann of Junction City, one brother Arnold A. Engstrom of Wichita, one sister Angeline G. French of Natchez, MS, five grandchildren; Julie, Josh, Travis, Katie and Kalli, two step-grandchildren; Bambi and Alanna, one great-grandchild; Tyler and three step-great grandchildren; Courtney, Baillie and Dallas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers; Leonard Engstrom, Emmitt Engstrom, Clarence Engstrom and Nick Engstrom, three sisters; Gladys Jaderborg, Loretta Jameson and Pearl Holmes.
