Florence Day, 96, of Junction City died October 6, 2003. Graveside services will be Saturday, October 11, 2003 at Highland Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be Friday, 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m at Penwell- Gabel Mass-Hinitt Chapel. Pastor Ronnie Roberts of the First Christian Church will officiate. Memorial Contributions may be made to Valley View Professional Care Center, 1417 W. Ash St., Junction City 66441.
Florence was born on February 10, 1907, in Mountain View, New Jersey to Richard and Emmaline (Ryerson) Jacobus. Her marriage to Mel Day was March 13, 1928 in Liberty, Missouri he preceded her in death March 25, 1984.
She was a resident of Junction City for many years where she worked at Duckwall's Store until retirement. She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge #82 Auxiliary, Eagle's Auxiliary and she had attended Manhattan High School. She had resided at Valley View Professional Care Center since 1990.
Survivors include two grandsons, Jack Whidden , Murrayville, Georgia, and Roger Whidden; three great-grandchildren; two nieces, Phyllis Flinn, Conyers, Georgia and Betty Macon, Attica, Kansas; two nephews, Robert Day, Emporia, Kansas and Cecil Day Jr. Palmyra, Virginia: and one sister-in-law, Millie Stoddard, Kissimmee, Florida.
Preceding her in death were her parents: two daughters, Mary Ann Whidden and Shirley Ann Day; two brothers, Clarence Jacobus and Edward Stoddard, and one sister Bessie May Norcross.
