Funeral services for Fern I. Segrist, 97, Junction City will be 1:30PM, Monday, March 19, 2007 at Alida-Upland Cooperative Parish with Pastor's Schar Cross and Bob Baer officiating. Burial will follow at Alida-Upland Cemetery. Mrs. Segrist passed away March 15, 2007 at Valley View Professional Care Center in Junction City. Visitation will be held from 5:30-7:00pm, Sunday, March 18, 2007 at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel, 203 N. Washington, Junction City, KS. Memorial contributions may be made to Alida-Upland Cooperative Parish and sent in care of Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel, 203, N. Washington, Junction City, KS 66441.
Fern was born September 20, 1909, in Rooks County, Kansas, the daughter of John W. and Emma (Stein) Geist. She grew up in rural Dickinson County.
She graduated from Chapman High School and worked as a Secretary at Upland Mutual Insurance Company for fifteen years and as a receptionist for Dr. C.V. Minnick for over thirty years. Fern was a member of the Alida Upland Cooperative Parish where she was active in women's work and as a childrens Sunday School Teacher. She served as an officer in Geary County Church Women United.
On September 21, 1951, she married Lloyd E. Segrist. He preceded her in death in 1998
She was also preceded in death by her parents, sisters Irene Baer and Lois Kaczar and one brother Wesley Geist who was killed in Europe during World War II.
Her only survivors include her two nieces Marilyn Roles of Junction City, Karen Waddle of St. Augustine, Florida and two nephews, Bob Baer of Winfield, Kansas and Ken Kaczar of Batavia, Illinois. She is also survived by 7 great nieces and nephews and 8 great- great nieces and nephews and a great- great- great niece and and a great- great-great nephew
