F. Keith Cain

May 14, 1927 — December 10, 2012

F. Keith Cain, 85, formerly of Junction City, died on Monday, December 10, 2012 at the Sunrise Living Center in Lenexa, KS. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at 2:00pm on Friday, December 21, 2012 at the Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel, 203 N. Washington St. in Junction City with Pastor Ronnie Roberts officiating. In lieu of flowers, the families suggest memorial contributions to Compassionate Care Hospice, 10200 W 75th St, Ste 100, Shawnee mission, KS 66204.

Keith was born on May 14, 1927 in St. George, KS. He began working as a very young man. He worked as a shoe salesman, carpenter and also insurance sales. He co-owned the Town House Café on North Washington St. in Junction City with his mother, Pearl. Most of his working life was spent at Kientz IGA and then Falley's Grocery Store until his retirement in 1991.

Keith had many hair-raising experiences at these jobs. While selling shoes on Poyntz in Manhattan he barely escaped the 1952 flood with his life. He survived an armed robbery at Kientz IGA. He was also managing Falley's after two men broke in to steal guns from the Gibsons store next door while one was still at large. Keith also had many humorous stories from his time in the grocery business.

After Keith retired, he would often see former customers that had become his friends. They were always happy to see him again; he truly enjoyed visiting with them and catching up on news of their families.

Keith was always busy, before and after he retired and he spent his time remodeling his home and on woodworking. He enjoyed gardening, landscaping & especially mowing with the lawn tractor. He loved collecting rocks to use in his many projects such as building rock walls and stone laying. He had a love for and owned many classic cars throughout his life, especially the Ford Mustang and he restored many as a young man. He collected beer lights and was always ready to show visitors his collection. Keith loved being outside, but he would always stop working to come in and watch KU basketball.

He was extremely hard-working and never had an unkind word towards anyone. Keith, and his ready smile, will sorely be missed by his family, friends and neighbors.

Alzheimer's is a slow, devastating disease. The last several years have not been easy for anyone and were often very difficult for Bonnie and her daughters, not to mention Keith himself. We would like to thank the staff at Sunrise Living Center for all their care and support for the past few months that he was there. Through it all, though, until recently, we would be with Keith and still see that same sweet smile.

Keith was preceded in death by his parents, Glenn & Pearl Cain, one sister, Ruth Stonebreaker, one daughter, Frances Freitick, and two grandchildren, Michael Freitick and Jeremy Schurle.

He is survived by his wife of almost 34 years, Bonnie (Cain); one son, Patrick Cain, one daughter, Kathleen Bryson, three stepdaughters: Shari Cooper & husband Lance, Teresa Warnock & husband Kevin Walters, and Michelle Warnock & husband Shawn Kiesling. Also surviving are ten grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
