Funeral services for Evelyn R. Martin, 85,of Junction City, will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, March 24, 2010 at the First Christian Church with Pastor Ronnie Roberts officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Clay Center, Kansas. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Tuesday, March 23, 2010 at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel, 203 N. Washington Street. Mrs. Martin passed away on Thursday, March 18, 2010 at Geary Community Hospital. Memorial Contributions have been designated to the Kansas State University Center for Basic Cancer Research, KSU Foundation Center, 2323 Anderson Avenue, Manhattan, KS 66502.
Evelyn was born on July 2, 1924 in Clay Center, Kansas to Harley W. and Clara (Hammel) Swanburg. She was a graduate of Clay County Community High School, class of 1942. She married Maurice Martin October 6, 1946 in Clay Center, KS.
Evelyn worked as a Secretary for Kaneb Pipeline in El Dorado, KS for 7 years. She and Maurice moved to Junction City, KS in 1965, she then worked as a Secretary at Fort Riley Credit Union for 20 years before she retired in 1989. She was a member of First Christian Church and a member of Gamma Phi Sorority since 1966.
She is survived by her husband Maurice of Junction City, KS, daughter, Linda Ehm and husband Sonny of Junction City, KS, two sons, Phil Martin and wife Cathie of Mission Viejo, CA and Randy Martin and wife Sherry of Chapman, KS, one sister, Bette Hanson of Colorado Springs, CO. Five grandchildren, Jon Ehm and wife Laura of Waterford, CT, Tiffany Melvin and husband A.J. of Philadelphia, PA, Ashley Martin of Portland, OR, Heather Martin of Junction City, KS and Jennifer Martin of Orinda, CA and one great-grandson, Finley Melvin of Philadelphia, PA.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Organist will be Roxie Johnston and Soloist will be Charlotte Landrith.
Pallbearers will be Jon Ehm, A.J. Melvin, William Hitchcock, Vern Hecker, Lawrence Long, Jim Hosler, Phil Martin, Lowell Newell and Jack Reboul.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Robert Ingmire, Ron Stewart, Lanny Wolf, John Hubbard, John Irwin and Tom Mika.
