Eva Lorene (Beals) Hurt, 85, of Junction City, KS passed away at Valley View Senior Life Center on March 12, 2012. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, March 15, 2012 at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel, 203 N. Washington Street. Graveside service will be held at 4 p.m. at Greenwood Cemetery at Clay Center. No visitation is planned. Memorial contributions may be given to Hospice at Geary Community Hospital, c/o Geary Community Health Care Foundation, P.O. Box 3015, Junction City, KS 66441 and/or Calvary Baptist Church, 405 W. 8th Street, Junction City, KS 66441.
Lorene was born on December 27, 1926 near Lamar, KS to Philip and Elsie (Durbin) Beals. She attended Country Schools until 8th grade where she went on to graduate from High School in Miltonvale, KS. She attended colleges at Emporia State and Kansas State where she received her Bachelor's and Masters Degrees in Teaching. She taught elementary students within the Cloud, Clay, Geary and Sedgwick County School Districts. She also tutored children in her home as well. She received an award from the Kansas Department of Human Resources and the Kansas Department of Aging for her commitment and professional attitude.
She met the love of her life, Irvin Oliver Hurt and they were later married at her parent's home in Clay Center on April 30, 1946.
Lorene leaves to mourn, her husband, Irvin, of 66 years, her children, Oliver (Laura) Hurt of Las Cruces, New Mexico, Angela (Orville) Nelson of Milford, KS and Charles Hurt of Topeka, KS. Five grandchildren, Rick Nelson, David (Jill) Nelson, all of Junction City, Janelle (Justice) Edge of Canyon Lake, TX, Tammy (Sean) Paquette of Milford, KS and Aimmie (Andrew) Jenkins of Ft. Riley, KS and fourteen great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one brother, Philip (Judy) Beals of Wichita, KS and one sister, Phyllis Shields of Abilene, KS as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by an infant son Irva, three sisters, Elnora Faith, Ava Root and Avis Stewart, one adopted brother, Perry Hart and one great-grandson, Luke David Nelson.
