Funeral services for Eunice T. "Teddy" Baresel, 86, Junction City, KS will be held at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 26, 2010 with Vicar Christian Schultz officiating. Graveside services will follow at Highland Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday evening from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel, 203 N. Washington Street. Mrs. Baresel passed away at Geary Community Hospital on May 21, 2010. Memorial contributions have been designated to the St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 5805 Clark's Creek Road, Junction City, KS 66441.
Eunice Theodora Hackler was born in Tampa, KS on January 17, 1924 to Grover Cleveland and Magdalena Theodora (Stemmermann) Hackler. She and her twin brother, Eugene Theodore, were baptized at St. Paul's Lutheran church in Ramona, KS by their grandfather, Reverend D. Stemmermann.
She graduated from Ramona high School and attended Emporia State Teacher's College in Emporia, KS, receiving her Teacher Certification in 1949. She also took elementary education classes at Kansas State University. While attending Emporia State, she was given the nickname "Teddy", the name by which most people knew her throughout her life.
She taught elementary grades in Chapman, KS and at Immanuel Lutheran School in Junction City. She left the teaching profession to raise her children, returning to work in 1966 for the Junction City Junior High School. She worked as Registrar there until her retirement.
She married Arthur Baresel at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Junction City, on April 9, 1950. They were devoted to each other in marriage for 59 years, until Arthur's death in March , 2010.
Teddy loved music, and especially enjoyed singing. As a youth, she sang in state-wide, church-sponsored contests, winning a trip to sing at the national level in New York. She sang in the church choir at Immanuel Lutheran and directed the choir for a time. After her retirement, she sang with the Troubadours.
At the time of her death she was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church at Clark's Creek. She served as the church's representative to Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, and as the President of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Arthur; her twin brother Eugene Hackler and brothers Roland, Robert and Daryl Hackler.
She is survived by her children, Renée Baresel of Merriam, KS; Tom Baresel and wife Laura, granddaughter Taylor Baresel all of Aurora, IN; sisters Jean (Hackler Beilharz) Spreen of Fairway, KS and Mildred Hackler of Junction City; sisters-in-law Emma (Mrs. Robert) Hackler of Charleston, IL; Ruth Ann (Mrs. Eugene) Hackler of Olathe, KS; Ella (Baresel) Walker of Lansing, MI; Esther (Baresel) Stanley of Colorado Springs, CO; Wanda (Mrs. Paul) Baresel of Oklahoma City, Ok; and Doris (Baresel) Lombardi of Peculiar, MO; twenty-two nieces and nephews and numerous great-nieces and nephews.
