Eunice M. Hughes, long time resident of Junction City, went to join her Lord on May 13, after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease.
A Memorial service will be held to celebrate Eunice's life at 1:00 pm on Monday, May 19, 2014, at the Penwell-Gabel Mass-Hinitt Chapel at 805 Caroline Avenue in Junction City. She had requested cremation, and will be laid to rest with her husband at Highland Cemetery at a later date.
She was born to William and Elda Neis in Ramona, Kansas, on January 11, 1930. Her family moved to Junction City during her high school years, and she graduated from Junction City High School in 1947. Eunice married Willie G. Hughes on August 1, 1955.
Many may remember Eunice from her time as a cook at Lincoln Elementary School as well as her many church activities in Junction City and while a resident of Topeka. Eunice loved to read, and enjoyed sewing and spending time outdoors in her garden. She also enjoyed taking walks, and took joy in caring for others.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory her sister, Maxine Kroeplin of Junction City; Daughters, Eunice Karmann (Terry) of Council Grove, Deb Tice (John) of Tecumseh, and Cathy Nagle (Ed) of Junction City. She also leaves behind grandchildren, Shelly Olson, Ian and Lauren Tice, and Sara and Joel Nagle; as well as three great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Willie Hughes; parents, William and Elda Neis; and sister Verda Budy.
