Etta M. Glessner, 77, of White City, died May 10, 2013 at her home. Etta was born March 1, 1936 at Buffalo, the daughter of Ernest & Ethel Williams Wernecke. She graduated from Alta Vista High School in 1954. She was a member of the White City United Methodist Church, Red Hats Club, Night Owls E.H.U., and the White City Election Board. She also had sang with a country band, both as a vocalist and a yodeler. She loved to watch her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren play sports. She attended as many games as she could. She was also an avid KU fan. She worked as a teacher's aide for mentally handicapped children at a school on Clark's Creek Rd. for 1 year, and later at the Dairy Queen in Junction City for 10 years.
Etta married Roy W. Glessner, Jr. on October 7, 1953 at the Main Post at Ft. Riley. He survives. Other survivors include: 3 sons, Larry Glessner and wife Sandy, Leonardville, Tony Glessner and wife Mindy, Council Grove, and Rick Glessner and wife Judy, Onaga; a daughter, Carol Worrell and husband Freddie, White City; 17 grandchildren, Megan (Glessner) Rhea, Ryan Glessner, Dustin Glessner, Emma Glessner, Bruce Field, Kristi Glessner, Stacy Otte, Amanda Otte, Derrick, Erika, Bethany, Rebekah, and Jackson Glessner, Heather (Worrell) Rosa, Ashley and Andy Worrell, Juana Puente; and 5 great-grandchildren, Kendall and Lexi Rhea, Gavin and Riley Rosa, and Ethen Puente. She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers, and 3 sisters.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, May 16, 2013 at the White City United Methodist Church with Rev. Norm Simmons presiding. Burial will be in the White City Cemetery. The family will greet friends Wednesday, 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at the church. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Rolling Prairie Senior Center, or the White City Fire Dept., or the White City United Methodist Church. Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel, Junction City is in charge of arrangements.
