Funeral services for Ernest Lee Prince, 90, of Junction City, KS will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, October 30, 2008 at Morris Hill Chapel, Fort Riley, KS with U S Army (RET) COL Chaplain Wesley Geary and Reverend Joyce Allen officiating. Burial will follow with full military honors at Highland Cemetery in Junction City. Visitation will be held at Penwell-Gabel Mass-Hinitt Chapel, 805 Caroline Avenue, Junction City on Wednesday, October 29, 2008 from 4-6 p.m. then 7-9 p.m. With his loving wife at his bedside Mr. Prince passed away on October 24, 2008 at St. Joseph Village, Manhattan, KS. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be given to Hospice at Geary Community, c/o Geary Community Health Care Foundation, P.O. Box 3015, Junction City, KS 66441.
Mr. Prince was born September 25, 1918, Liberty, MO to Arthur and Maggie(Shepard) Prince. Prior to being drafted into the Army in 1943 he served with the Civilian Conservation Corp. He served with distinction and honors with WWII's African and European Theatres and the Korean War in the A Battery 5th Field Artillery Operations.
He retired from the Army in 1966 at Fort Riley, KS and remained in Junction City, KS with his wife Georgianne whom he married on February 3, 1959. Following his retirement from the Army he worked as a supervisor of the Ambulance section and as an Equal Employment Opportunity Officer for Irwin Army Community Hospital as a Civil Service Employee with distinction and honors and later at the Footlocker Distribution Center in Junction City. He was a member of the Church of Our Savior United Methodist Church, the Acacia Masonic Lodge #91, Retired Enlisted Association, the Disabled American Veterans, American Legion and for many years he was active with the Boy Scouts of America and the Junction City High School Forensics Team.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years Georgianne of Junction City, KS, his son Ron (Head Football Coach at Kansas State University) and his daughter-in-law Zoé Prince and his four grandchildren, Ron Prince, II "Deuce", James Arthur, Sarah Grace and John Paul all of Manhattan, KS.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers; Elmer and James Prince.
