A funeral Mass for Erika K. Schmidt, 87, formerly of Junction City, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2011, at St. Xavier's Catholic Church with Father Al Brungardt officiating. Erika died Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2011, in Oklahoma City, at Somerset Assisted Living. She lived in Junction City most of her adult life and moved to Moore, OK in 1998, and subsequently to Somerset Assisted Living in September of this year.

She was born March 28, 1924, in Altenwald, Germany, near Saarbrucken. She married Master Sgt. (Ret.) Linus A. Schmidt Dec. 14, 1951, in Hertzoganarauch, Germany. Her maiden name was Erika K. Sesar. She was a homemaker and the mother of three children. She was a member of St. Xavier's Catholic Church until moving away.

Survivors include two sons, Major (Ret.) Daniel L. Schmidt, Stafford, Virginia, and his wife Lori; Thomas J. Schmidt, Oklahoma City; and a daughter, Jacqueline A. Whitney, Springboro, Ohio. Additionally, four grandchildren survive, Jason Schmidt, Stafford, Virginia; Jarrod and Holly Schmidt, Fredericksburg, Virginia; Heath and Nicole Whitney, Arlington Virginia; and Jayme Schmidt, Oklahoma City. She is also survived by a great granddaughter, Brooke Schmidt, Fredericksburg, Virginia.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, an infant daughter, brother, sister, and son-in-law, Carl Whitney.

She will be buried with her husband at Fort Riley Cemetery. There is no visitation planned. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial contributions be provided to St. Xavier Catholic Church, P.O. Box 399, Junction City, KS 66441.
