Eric C. "Dakota" Bremer, 51, passed away surrounded by his family on December 28, 2018 at Stoneybrooke in Manhattan after a year-long illness. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 5, 2019 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, 630 S. Eisenhower, Junction City, KS with Reverend David Meier officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. A visitation will take place one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions have been designated to the St. Joseph Indian School, 1301 N. Main Street, Chamberlain, SD 57325.
He was born on February 5,1967 in Wagner, South Dakota - tribal headquarters of the Yankton Sioux Indian reservation. He was later adopted by Leonard and Dolores Bremer in December 1970 when he was three years old. He grew up in rural Chapman and Junction City attending Immanuel Lutheran Church and School, and Junction City Jr. & Sr. High Schools. Leonard and Dolores raised him in a loving, Christian home but encouraged him to stay connected to his native heritage.
Eric had a strong connection to nature and loved fishing, hiking, and being outdoors. His favorite jobs were in road construction, landscaping, and lawn care. He was meticulous in his lawn work and leaves behind many satisfied customers. Eric was also an avid music fan and made a hobby of collecting tapes, cds, and other things that were of great value to him. He loved all animals, especially his dogs - ChiChi and Missy, but most of all, he loved his family and friends. Eric was extremely observant, thoughtful, kind, and funny - always ready with a smile and hug. He lived his life in the moment, never dwelling on the past, and he overcame many challenges in his life including cancer. He would say, "I'm a tuff lil dog." And he was. He will be dearly missed and remembered as a wonderful son, brother, uncle, and friend.
Eric was preceded in death by his dad, Leonard on April 8, 2001, and by his mother, Dolores on February 8, 2017 - a loss that had the greatest impact on his life.
Eric is survived by his siblings, Eileen (Doug) Honeman of Mustang, OK; Ruth (Gene) Bammes of Topeka, KS; Mark Bremer of Shawnee, KS; Dr. Kim Hodge of Junction City; Lynne Bremer of Junction City; and Tracy Sender of Junction City. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Jordan (Randas) Honeman; Kyle (Jandra) Honeman; Benjamin (Stephanie) Bammes; Nathan (Eva) Bammes; Sam (Emma) Bremer; Katie Bremer; Chad and Brad Hodge; Amber (Clay) Crocker; Michelle Whitefoot; Zachary and Aaron Johnson; and Jeffrey Sender.
