Emma Banks Cummins, 86, passed away Thursday, Feb. 19, 2009. Her parents were Reverend J. M. Porter and Emma Canty Jones.
Emma was born May 22, 1922 in Ryan, Oklahoma. She graduated from Cherryvale High School in Cherryvale, KS. Emma also attended nursing school at Wesley Hospital in Wichita, KS. She married Phillip M. Cummins on Jan. 19, 1942 and moved to Junction City, KS. There, she served as Secretary-Treasurer of Cummins Oil Co. for many years. For over 30 years she was a member of the Ladies Reading Club and served the organization in every office and capacity. She was also a lifetime member of the PTA, and was an active member of the First United Methodist Church.
Emma is survived by her husband, Phillip; their children, Edward Cummins, Sharon Cummins, Robert Cummins, and Troy Cummins; eight grandchildren, Bradley Samoszenko, Sarah Van Vooren, Susan Long, Brian Cummins, Diane Cummins, Stephanie Cummins, Samantha Cummins, Stacey Cummins; and sixteen great grandchildren.
Emma was a remarkable and selfless person who was loved by many, and she will always be missed.
Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 26, 2009 at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel, 203 N. Washington St. with Rev. Kenton Van officiating.
