Elzada Mae Dutcher

Elzada Mae Dutcher, 86, of Junction City, passed away January 5, 2005 at Manor Care Health Services in Topeka. Visitation will be Sunday, January 9, 2005, 2-4 p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel. Funeral service will be Monday, January 10, 2005, 1 p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel with Pastor G. Edmond Thomas officiating. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to Homecare and Hospice, 323 Poyntz Ave., Manhattan, KS 66502 and/or Senior Citizen's Center, 1107 S. Spring Valley Rd., Junction City, KS 66441.

Ms. Dutcher was born August 25, 1918 in Walnut Ridge, AR, daughter of John A. and Mary E. (Hudson) Goad. She came to Junction City in 1933 from Missouri.

Ms. Dutcher was very active in the community. She was an officer and board member of the following organizations: Geary County Mental Health Association, Election Board, Washington School PTA, ran the Thrift Store, Geary County Area Agency, Senior Citizen's Center, Geary County Historical Society, Original member of the City PRIDE, Chair woman of the Democrat Women, Valley View Professional Care Center volunteer, Girl Scouts USA, Block Parent Program, won the Service to Mankind Award from the local Sertoma Club, helped collect donations for the establishment of the Martin Luther King Park at 12th and Franklin, received the Friend of Education award from both the state and Geary County Boards of Education, member of the Grant Avenue Pride committee and helped collect donations for the flags that lined Grant Avenue and Washington streets to welcome the troops back from Desert Storm and received the Quiet Hero Award from the City Commission and the Daily Union. Ms. Dutcher was also an active member of the First Baptist Church.

Ms. Dutcher married Willard Childres August 25, 1934 in Manhattan, KS; he preceded her in death July 20, 1950. She later married Paul W. Dutcher October 10, 1953 in Sedalia, MO; he preceded her in death December 29, 1983. Her dearest friend, Carlos Rose, also preceded her in death November 11, 2004.

Survivors include her two sons, Willard Childres, II of McPherson and John Robert Childres of Palm Coast, FL; three daughters, Phyllis Hern of Bensenville, IL, Mary Frances Hug of Topeka and Debra Reutebuch of Junction City; one brother, Charles "Duke" Goad of Phoenix, AZ; 10 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, William A. Goad, John Erstell Goad and Benjamin F. Goad.

Pallbearers will be Jeremy Winkleman, Joshua Winkleman, Alan Hug, Jr., Frank Barel, Sean Barel and Todd Reutebuch.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Cindy Tozier, Jana LeBlanc, Elizabeth Barel, Jeannine Price, Suzanne Skwarek, John Robert Childres, II and Roger Childres.

Organist will be Florence Whitebread and vocalist will be Ken Martin.
