Elwood W. "Bud" Orr, 86, of White City, KS, passed away on Monday, February 3, 2020 at his home in White City, KS. A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Monday, February 10, 2020, at the Parkerville Baptist Church in Parkerville, KS. Pastor Steve Strom will officiate. A visitation will be held 3-5 p.m. Sunday, February 9, 2020, at the Johnson Funeral Home in Junction City. Burial will follow the service Monday at the White City Cemetery. Memorial contributions are suggested to be given to the American Diabetes Association.

Bud was born February 14, 1933, in Junction City, KS the son of John Emmett and Hazel Vanlora (Ward) Orr.

Bud graduated from White City High School where he was captain of the football team. After graduation, he joined the US Navy having retired from the Navy in 1972. He served during the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. Bud was at the US Cuban Missile Crisis and served aboard the USS Forrestal. On the USS Forrestal, he was an aviation ordinance chief overseeing the flight deck and the planes. During that time, he had the honor of working with John McCain who was a pilot assigned to the USS Forrestal. He was one of the few survivors of the notably 1967 fire that killed 134 sailors. After his retirement, he moved back to White City, KS to ranch and farm. Bud also worked civil service at Fort Riley.

Bud was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the Scottish Rite. He belonged to the Isis Shrine in Salina, KS and was a member of the Parkerville Baptist Church.

He married Ivah Lee Gambill at Havre de Grace, MD. They have been married over sixty years.

Survivors include his wife Ivah Lee Orr of the home; two daughters, Melissa Dennis of Lexington, KY and Sandra Orr of White City, KS; one grandson, Drew Ian Dennis of Louisville, KY; two great-grandsons, Harrison and Everett Dennis.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Wilbert E. Orr.
