Funeral services for Ella Laster, 74, of Junction City will be Friday, March 31, 2006, 11 a.m. at the Second Missionary Baptist Church with Reverend Leonard F. Gray officiating. Burial will follow at Fort Riley Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, March 30, 2006, 6-8 p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Mass-Hinitt Chapel, 805 Caroline Avenue. Mrs. Laster passed away at Geary Community Hospital on March 22, 2006. Memorial contributions may be given to the Second Missionary Baptist Church, 701 W. 10th, Junction City, KS 66441.
Mrs. Laster was born March 20, 1932, Carrollton, GA to James and Ida (Daniel) Reid. She married Harvey Laster, February 14, 1953, Camp Rook, AL. The family came to Junction City in 1970 and decided to make it their home at the retirement of Mr. Laster. She worked as a manager of an Ice Cream Strore at Fort Riley for 15 years. She worked at Valley View Daycare Center as well as running her own daycare at her home. She was also employed in USD 475.
She was a member of the Second Missionary Baptist Church where she belonged to the Beacon Light Mission as well as serving as president of the Dorcus Mission Circle. Ella joined many community organizations including the NAACP and the Geary County Democratic Women.
She is survived by her husband Harvey Laster, Sr., four sons, Gary Laster of Lawrence, KS, Harvey Laster, Jr, Robert Laster both of Junction City, KS, David Laster of Ogden, KS, two daughters, Diana Laster of Junction City, KS and Shirley Laster of Virginia, eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and one sister.
