Eliodoro Terrestre "Ed" Ibarra, 93, died Sunday, August 5, 2012, at the Valley View Senior Life surrounded by his family. A Mass of Christian burial will take place 10 a.m. Thursday, August 9, 2012, at the St. Xavier Catholic Church with Father Al Brungardt officiating. Burial will follow the service at Kansas Veterans' Cemetery. A visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, August 8, 2012, with a vigil service at 7:30 p.m. at the Penwell-Gabel Johnson Funeral Chapel 203 N. Washington Street. Memorial contributions may be given to the St. Xavier Catholic Church, P.O. Box 399, Junction City, KS 66441 or to the Valley View Senior Life Center, 1417 W. Ash Street, Junction City, KS 66441.

Ed was born May 6, 1919, in Lal-Lo Cagayan, Philippines the son of Leon Vargas and Raymunda Perez Terrestre Ibarra.

Ed was a Scout for the Philippine Army where he survived the Bataan Death March. He was reassigned to the United States Army having served in World War II and the Korean Conflict. He retired after twenty three years in the Army as an E-6. After retirement, he worked for Irwin Army Community Hospital for twenty years. During his military career, he was awarded military honors with the American Defense Services, Asiatic-Pacific Theatre and received the Philippines Defense Ribbon and the Bronze Star. Ed belonged to the St. Xavier Parish, Lions Club and the Trubadores. He loved his family, working in his yard and fishing.

In 1954, he married Carol Haga in Tokyo, Japan. She survives of the home. From this union, five children were born.

Survivors include one son, Ray Ibarra and his wife Cheryl of Junction City, three daughters, Katherine Lambert and her husband Leo of Foristell, MO, Janet Bowker and her husband Franklin of McPherson, KS and Florence Ibarra of Junction City. He is survived by five grandchildren, Vanessa VandeRiet and her husband Rik, Kyle Ibarra and his wife Harmony, Kevin Lambert, Cory Lambert, Jessica Robichaud and Terrance Knight. He is also survived by six great-grandchildren, Madeline, Owen, Annabel, Aislynn, Eliadora and Olivia.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his infant daughter Sally.
