Elfriede C. White, 83, of Junction City, died Sept. 7, 2017 at Geary Community Hospital. Elfriede was born August 11, 1934 in Stuttgart, Germany, the daughter of Robert and Gertrude (Rieger) Braig. She attended all of her schooling in Germany.
Elfriede was a food service worker, having worked for many years as a cook for Cohen's Chicken House in Junction City. She also worked in the kitchen at Valley View Estates. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Junction City.
Elfriede married Tony White, Sr. on December 18, 1958 in Stuttgart, Germany. They moved to Junction City in 1959. Tony died Jan. 28, 1986.
Survivors include: 3 sons, Tony L. White, Jr., Junction City, Robert L. White (Jeff Reese), Des Moines, Iowa, and Charles Lee White (Lori Hoffman), Junction City; 3 daughters, Charlotte Tanguay and her husband Carl, Junction City, Barbara Mahaffey-White, Kansas City, Missouri, and Lynn White, Junction City; 1 brother, Kuno; and 3 sisters, Inge, Gerda, and Helene, all of Germany; 9 grandchildren; and 1 great grandson. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Graveside services will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 14, 2017 at Ft. Riley Post Cemetery, Ft. Riley. The family will greet friends on Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2017, 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. at the Penwell-Gabel Junction City Funeral Chapel, 203 N. Washington, Junction City. Memorial contributions may be made to the Elfriede White Memorial Fund, sent in care of the funeral home.
If planning to attend the graveside service, please arrive at the Penwell-Gabel Junction City Funeral Chapel no later than 9:45 a.m. on Thursday to be able to go in procession to the Ft. Riley Post Cemetery.
