Eldon L. Hoyle

Eldon LeRoy Hoyle, age 85, died on Thursday, September 15th, at the Geary Community Hospital. Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 19th, at 10:00 a.m. at the Episcopal Church of the Covenant in Junction City. A reception will follow at the church. Eldon will be cremated and his remains buried at Highland Cemetery by private family ceremony following the service and reception.

Mr. Hoyle was born on August 11, 1926 to Elmer and Mabel Hoyle in Junction City. He was a graduate of Junction City High School and served in the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theater during World War II. Upon his return, he joined the family business, Hoyle's IGA, until 1963 when he closed the business, earned his Real Estate license and opened his own realty company, Hoyle Realtors. He also served as a retail recruiter for the city and as the interim director of the Economic Development Commission in 2001.

Believing strongly in serving his community, Eldon held numerous elected positions over the years, including Junction City commissioner (1973-77), Junction City mayor (1974-75), Geary County commissioner (1990-94 and 1999-2007), Junction City Chamber of Commerce President (1976-77), President of the Junction City Board of Realtors, President of the Junction City Booster Club and President of the Junction City-Fort Riley Shrine Club. He also served in many volunteer posts at the Church of the Covenant Episcopal Church.

Preceding Eldon in death were his parents, Elmer and Mabel Hoyle and his brothers, Ellis and wife Beulah, and Earl and wife Ione. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Barbara Heyl Hoyle and his daughters, Shelley Hoyle Kite and husband, Tom; Melinda Hoyle Bozarth and husband, Mike; Leslie Hoyle Guerra and husband, Larry; and Melanie Hoyle Laster and husband, Bob. Other survivors include six grandchildren – Jessica Laster, Spencer Laster, Meagan Bozarth, Kyle Kite, Kelley Kite Wilson and Jessica Guerra, as well as three great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Family was always extremely important to Mr. Hoyle, as evidenced by the active interest and involvement in his children's lives and their steadfast love and respect for their father. He was an exemplary role model to his family and, along with his partner of so many years, lived a full and happy life. He will be greatly missed by the many people whose lives he touched over the past eight and a half decades.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to be made to the Episcopal Church of the Covenant, 314 North Adams Street, or the Geary Community Healthcare Foundation, P.O. Box 3015, both of Junction City, KS 66441.
