Memorial Services will be held for Edwin H. Schoenbeck, 88, of Junction City, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church on Saturday, April 8, at 2:30 p.m. with Pastor Rick Marrs officiating. A private family inurnment will precede the services at Highland Cemetery in Junction City, No visitation is planned. Memorials may be sent to the Immanuel Lutheran Church, 630 S. Edwin H. Schoenbeck died on April 6, 2006 in Junction City, KS at the Geary Community Hospital. He was born January 9, 1918 in Norwood Park, IL to his parents, Reverend Herman and Ida Schoenbeck. Ed had three brothers and four sisters including a twin sister Edna.
He married Louise Mass of Junction City on December 12, 1941. He is survived by his wife of the home and son Jim Schoenbeck and his wife Karen of Abilene, KS, son Tom Schoenbeck and his wife Mary of Scottsdale, AZ and daughter Elouise Jahnke and her husband Clark of Overland Park, KS, 6 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
He joined the U.S. Army in 1936 and retired from active service in 1947 as a Captain. He served at Ft. Sheridan, IL, Ft. Riley, KS and Camp Lockett, CA in the Horse Cavalry From 1942 through early 1944 he served as an Officer with the 10th Cavalry Buffalo Soldiers. He later served as an Infantry Company Commander in Italy and France in 1944 during World War II. He was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart for that service.
Since 1946 he worked as a business manager for the Daily Union Newspaper, Accountant for the Ford dealership and spent 27 years as a Real Estate Broker in Junction City. During that period he served as President of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, President of the Jr. Chamber of Commerce where he received the Young Man of the Year Award, President of the Chamber of Commerce, President of the Lions Club, President of the Junction City USO. He was also a member of the D.A.V., the American Legion, 9th and 10th Cavalry Association, the U.S. Horse Cavalry Association.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jeff Schoenbeck, Matt Schoenbeck, Melanie Molzahn Schoenbeck, Laura Schoenbeck Rogers, Kris Luttman, and Beth Luttman Patton.
