Edward James Rolfs, age 93, of Junction City, passed away on August 16, 2018 at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka.

Ed J. was born December 13, 1924 in Junction City, Kansas and was the son of Edward W. Rolfs and Evelina (Watt) Rolfs. Ed J. held education in high esteem and long supported students in their pursuit of academic study through scholarships and sponsorship of the Ladies Reading Club academic luncheon. His schooling included Junction City High School, an undergraduate degree from the University of Kansas, and a graduate degree from Columbia University in New York. He also earned a Graduate School of Banking degree from the University of Wisconsin at Madison.

Ed J. was married to Eunice Carlson Rolfs on September 4, 1948. He passed away a few weeks short of their 70th wedding anniversary.

Ed J. devoted his career to building the company his father first became affiliated with in 1915, Central National Bank. Ed J. assumed the role of Central National Bank President in 1967 and led the bank through 25 years of growth and success, overseeing the expansion outside of Geary County into communities across Kansas through the establishment of the bank holding company, Central of Kansas, Inc., on February 10, 1983. Ed J. was a visionary leader with a brilliant mind, and left a lasting impact on those he worked with and mentored. Ed J.'s legacy at the bank extends to today, with his children and grandchildren actively involved in Central National Bank.

Ed J. was active in civic and community organizations, serving as a member of the Junction City Rotary Club since 1950, and joining the Masonic Union Lodge #7 in 1953. In 1955 he served as President of both the Rotary Club and the Junction City Chamber of Commerce. He was a past President of the Highland Cemetery Association, as well as a past chairman of Central Charities Foundation. He served as Treasurer and Trustee of the Kansas Council for Economic Education.

Ed J. was modest and quiet about his many accomplishments. He was the recipient of the Junction City Jaycee Distinguished Service Award, a national Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award nominee, and received a Coronado Council award for support of the Boy Scout organization. He was a strong supporter of the Arts, and received the Kansas Governor's Art Award in 2007. He was a member of the KU Chancellor Associates and was in the KSU Presidents Club. Ed J. was a licensed commercial pilot.

Ed J. was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church, serving as Church Treasurer, Choir Member, Trustee, Sunday School teacher, and Elder. He was a Delta Tau Delta fraternity member at KU and member of several honorary fraternities for academic achievement. He was a 73 year member of the American Legion Post #45. Ed J. was a veteran of both World War II and the Korean Conflict.

Ed J. enjoyed farm work during retirement, spending most days working on the family farm outside of Wakefield, Kansas. He was an avid reader, researcher, and lifelong student. He enjoyed analyzing the financial markets and studying economic trends.

Ed J. is survived by his wife Eunice of the home; his sister, Betty Rolfs Waters of Junction City; his children, Christine Rolfs Munson and Robert Munson of Junction City, Thomas James Rolfs and Shannon Rolfs of Junction City, and Ed C. Rolfs of Topeka; his grandchildren Sara Munson Girard and husband Nathan Girard of Topeka, Michael Munson and wife Lindsey of Topeka, Brett Rolfs and wife Amanda of Junction City, and Caitlin Rolfs and fiancé Luke Treat of Salida, Colorado. He is also survived by four great-grandchildren, Austin and Ella Girard and Morgan and Dylan Munson.

The family will receive visitors Sunday afternoon, August 19 from 4:00 - 6:00 pm at First Presbyterian Church, 113 W. 5th Street, Junction City, Kansas. The funeral service will be held Monday, August 20 at 10:00 am at the church with Reverend Tim Maguffee officiating. Private family interment will follow the service at Highland Cemetery.
