Edward Charles Oliver, 63, Junction City departed this life on September 8, 2012, at the Geary Community Hospital. A funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. Tuesday, September 18, 2012, at the Second Missionary Baptist Church with Dr. Leonard Gray officiating. Burial will follow the service at Highland Cemetery. A visitation will take place 6-8 p.m. Monday, September 17, 2012, at the Penwell-Gabel Mass-Hinitt Chapel, 805 Caroline Ave. Memorial contributions may be given to the American Cancer Society, 1315 SW Arrowhead Rd., Topeka, Kansas 66604.
Edward Charles Oliver was born October 1, 1948, in San Antonio, Texas the son of James and Fernella Hartwell Oliver. He has resided in Junction City in 1970.
Oliver accepted Christ at an early age as a member of the Memorial Baptist Church in San Antonio under the leadership of Reverend D.C. McNeal. Edward attended public schools in San Antonio, Texas; Kansas City, Missouri and San Bernardino, California. Edward left home at an early age and served in the United States Army. Edward worked many years at Fort Riley as a cook. He was a member of Second Missonary Baptist Church in Junction City.
Survivors include his long time life companion Elizabeth Hazelton of Junction City. He is survived by his two sons, Edward Oliver, Jr. and Jackie Oliver both of Junction City. Two brothers, Ronnie Osirio and his wife Peggie of Phoenix, AZ and Kenny Oliver of Palm Springs, CA and one uncle the Reverend Dr. Jimmy Hartwell and is wife Maxine of Santa Ana, CA. He is survived by seventeen grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister Carol Ann Oliver.
