Edward Louis Augustine, 87, of Junction City, Kansas passed away on Wednesday, October 26 in Denver, Colorado. Rosary will be held Wednesday, November 9, 2022 at 11:00 a.m., followed by a memorial service at 11:30 a.m., at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. Interment will service at St. Mary’s Cemetery, 1657-1699 St. Mary’s Rd., Junction City, Kansas.
Ed (Eddie, Easy Ed, Sonny) was born September 22, 1935 in Port Chester, New York to Edward J. and Anne (Marciniak) Augustine. He was raised with a large family in Greenwich, Connecticut. When he was 17 he decided to leave home in pursuit of traveling to California. On his way, he stopped in Junction City to visit his Aunt Mary and Uncle Charlie Mathey, who were stationed at Fort Riley, Kansas. While he was visiting, he met Darlene, and never made it to California. They were married on October 15, 1956. They were married for 50 years. Darlene passed away August 24, 2007. They raised their 3 children, Edward (Butch), Gladys, and Mike, in Junction City.
Ed worked at United Telephone, and then Sprint for many years. After retirement Ed was a regular spectator at many basketball and football games that his grandsons played in, and 4H shooting sports events and musicals that his granddaughters participated in. Additionally he had season tickets to KC Chiefs games for many years. He rarely missed attending a Chiefs game in person or watching Chiefs on TV. He was a Lifetime member of NRA and Kansas State Rifle Association, also serving as a director of KSRA. He was a Kansas Hunter Education Association Instructor for 50 years, a founding member of Geary County Fish and Game, and a 62 year member of Elks.
Ed is survived by his daughter Gladys Case of Camdenton, Missouri; son, Mike Augustine (Shari) of Edwardsville, Kansas.; two grandsons, Jake Case (Vanessa), Jered Case (Meghan); two granddaughters, Allison Augustine, Michaela Holley (Joey); three great grandchildren, Ava, Zander, and Ethan; two nieces Susan and Lynn; and great nephew Zachary.
Preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Darlene (Hurt) Augustine; his son, Ed (Butch) Augustine; and his sister, Marianne Benedetto.
