Edna M. Patterson, 86, of Junction City died on Saturday, August 4, 2012 at the Geary Community Hospital in Junction City. Visitation will be on Thursday, August 9, 2012 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Penwell-Gabel Mass-Hinitt Chapel, 805 Caroline Ave. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 10, 2012 at the Ward Chapel A.M.E. Church, 1711 N. Jefferson St. with Pastor Viola Jones officiating. Cremation will take place following the service. Edna was born on September 18, 1925 in Lynville, Tennessee to Andrew and Susie Jackson. She spent most of her early childhood growing up in nearby Nashville, TN and attended schools there.
She married Robert B. Patterson on December 24, 1950 in Franklin, Tennessee. As a military wife, Edna followed her husband Robert to several different military postings including a short stay in Germany. They were assigned to Fort Riley, KS in 1961 and shortly after they moved to Junction City to make their home.
She was a member of the Ward A.M.E Church for many years and was very active in church activities. Most people will remember her for her passion for bingo which she thoroughly enjoyed at every available opportunity. She was also a member of the VFW Women's Auxiliary and several other civic organizations here in Junction City.
She is survived by one son, Robert E. Patterson of Junction City, by three nephews, Daryl Jackson, Fred Jackson , and Lemont Hill all of Junction City, by several nieces, Karen Harriss, Stephanie Hill, Faith Thomas, Christal Padilla, and Abia McFarland. She is also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Susie Jackson, by her husband, Robert B. Patterson, by one daughter, Jacqueline Patterson, and one grandson, Bruce Patterson.
