Beloved mother and grandmother, Edna Darlene Westover, age 90, died on Saturday, Jan 12, 2013 at Sterling House in Junction City, Kansas.
Mrs. Westover was born on July 28, 1922 in Adams, Nebraska. She was the daughter of Harold Underwood and Clara Scott Underwood. As a young girl, Darlene moved to Junction City. After graduating from Junction City High School in 1941, she married Roy A. Westover. They were married for 63 years until Roy's death in 2004. Darlene remained a resident of Junction City until her death.
Darlene was an active member of the First United Methodist Church for over 75 years. She served on many church committees, in the Women's Church Circle, and in the Methodist Church Women's Group. In 2006, the Church honored her with a 60 plus years membership pin. She was a lifetime member-at–large and past president of the VFW Women's Auxiliary. Darlene was also a precinct committee person on the GOP Central Committee and a Campaign Chairman for several Republican candidates. She was past president of the Kansas Federation of Republican Women and a two-time delegate to the Republican National Convention. A book was donated by the Republican Women's Club in Darlene's honor to the Dorothy Bramlage Public Library. In the Gamma Phi Chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority, she held the office of the president, was selected district outstanding woman and earned 5th level Pallas award in 2006. She was involved on local boards, such as Mental Health and United Way. In 2000, she served as chairman of Geary Community Healthcare Foundation. Further, she really enjoyed being in the Garden Club, Reading Club and participating in league bowling.
Darlene was preceded in death by her husband, Roy, in 2004, two sons, Gary in 1977 and Rory in 1996, and a brother, Donald Underwood in 1981. She is survived by two sons, Dennis Westover and wife Karen of Junction City and Kevin Westover and wife Sally of Junction City; two daughters, Sheryl Sears and husband Mike of Greensboro, NC and Jill Cohen and husband Mike of Libertyville IL. Her grandchildren are Roy and Brandy Sears of Greensboro, NC; Chris and Sean Cohen of Libertyville, IL; Dustin Westover of Reno, NV; Troy Cummins of Houston, TX; Bradley Samoszenko of Gladstone, MO; and Niki Robidou of Oklahoma City, OK. Her great grandchildren are Joe and Phil Samoszanko, Sydney Robidou and Michael Robert Sears.
A memorial service in celebration of Darlene's life will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Junction City. Exact date and time to be announced later. Darlene will be remembered as a very caring, gracious and loving Christian woman. She is now at home with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
