Funeral services for Edith M. Umscheid, 97, Topeka, will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, November 2, at the First Presbyterian Church in Junction City with Reverend Aleta Ash, Chaplain at the Topeka Presbyterian Manor officiating. Calling hours will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel. Burial will follow the service at the Bala Cemetery.
Mrs. Umscheid passed away Sunday, October 29, 2006, at Topeka Presbyterian Manor, Topeka. Memorial contributions may be given to First Presbyterian Church, 113 W. 5th, Junction City, KS 66441, and/or the Midland Hospice, 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka, KS 66606.
Mrs. Umscheid was born September 9, 1909, in Riley County, the daughter of Phillip Morgan and Catherine (Edwards) Parry. Mrs. Umscheid was a homemaker and sold Avon for many years. She married Richard "Dick" Umscheid on Feb. 17, 1942. He passed away June 11, 2005.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Junction City until she moved to Topeka with her husband in 2003. She was involved in many functions with the church.
Edith enjoyed knitting, needle point and was an excellent cook.
She is survived by many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, John D. Parry, Edward Parry and Arthur Parry; four sisters, Hannah Lober, Mae Jenkins, Gladys Parry and Jane Pishney.
