Mr. Eddie Wilcher Jr., passed away August 13, 2009 at his home. A graveside service with full military honors for Mr.Wilcher, 72 of Junction City, KS will be held at 11a.m. Friday, August 28, 2009 at Kansas Veterans Cemetery. There will be a memorial service immediately following the burial ceremony at VFW Post #8773. No visitation will be held. Memorial contributions have been designated to the Wilcher Family Memorial Fund in care of Penwell-Gabel Mass-Hinitt Funeral Chapel, 805 Caroline Ave, Junction City, KS 66441.
Eddie was born April 6, 1937 in Summertown, Georgia, the son of Eddie and Emma (Williams) Wilcher Sr. He retired as an expert marksman from the United States Army in 1975 after twenty six years of service. After his military retirement he worked as a self-employed carpenter in Junction City until the time of his death. Eddie was a past Commander for VFW Post #8773, a past Grand Commander of the MOC for the state of Kansas, and a past Supreme Commander of the 9th District which included the states of Kansas, Missouri, Iowa, Nebraska and South Dakota. Besides being involved with these organizations, Eddie enjoyed traveling, playing cards, spending time with family and good food.
Survivors include his wife of more than 20 years, Blanche E. Wilcher of Topeka Kansas, two daughters, Cynthia L. Wilcher of Derby Kansas, and Donita L. Jarrell of Wichita Kansas. His only living brother, Jettie Wilcher lives in Swainsboro Georgia. Eddie was very proud of his four surviving grandchildren, and one great-grandchild, all of the Wichita area. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and one brother. Eddie will be missed and is loved by all.
