Earl W. Dreher, 90, of Junction City, KS, passed away on Monday, May 25, 2015, at the Geary Community Hospital. A graveside service with full military honors will be held 2 p.m. Monday, June 1, 2015, at the Kansas Veterans' Cemetery. A visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. Sunday, May 31, 2015, at the Penwell-Gabel Johnson Funeral Chapel 203 N. Washington Street in Junction City. Memorial contributions are suggested to be given to the Earl C. Gormley American Legion Post #45 201 E. 4th Street Junction City, KS 66441, Disabled American Veterans VA Hospital-Bldg #24 RM106G 2200 SW Gage Blvd. Topeka, KS 66622 or to the organization of the donor's choice.
Earl was born December 16, 1924, in Barnard, MO the son of Homer W. and Ethel (McPeak) Dreher.
Earl served thirty years in the United States Army having retired in July of 1979 at the rank of CSM. He served in Japan, Germany, Vietnam, and many state side assignments. Prior to his military career, he worked as a farmer in Northwest Missouri as well as owning and operating his own milk route. During retirement, he enjoyed traveling, gardening, home projects and bowling. At one time, he bowled four times a week. He was also a fast softball pitcher in his younger years continuing throughout his military service. He also enjoyed playing cards and pitching horse shoes with family and friends.
He married Maxine Snow February 13, 1950, in Maryville, MO. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include one son, Anthony Dreher and his wife Linda Krauze of Louisville, CO and one daughter, Deborah Phillips of Roanoke, VA. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Nicole Phillips of Santa Monica, CA, Paul Dreher and Rachel Dreher both of Louisville, CO, one brother-in-law Derrel Snow, two sister-in-laws, Dorothy Dreher and Anne Snow, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and two sisters.
