Funeral services for SSG (Ret) Earl Stewart, 77, Junction City, KS will be 10 a.m., Thursday, December 14, 2006, at the Penwell-Gabel Johnson Funeral Chapel with Pastor James Johnson officiating. Mr. Stewart passed away Thursday, December 7, 2006, at his home in Junction City. Burial will follow the service at Fort Riley Cemetery with full military honors. A visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, at the Penwell-Gabel Johnson Funeral Chapel. Mr. Stewart was born September 13, 1929, in Clarksburg, West Virginia, the son of Tinsley E. and Lelia A. Stewart, Sr. He has resided in Junction City since 1972.
Earl attended Kelly Miller High School and entered the U.S. Army in 1949. He served in the Army until 1973. After retiring from the U.S. Army, he held a Civil Service Career working for the installation Morale, Welfare and Recreation Directorate at Fort Riley as Fitness Center and Bowling Alley Manager. He was a member of the American Bowling Association, the American Legion, and a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post # 8773. He was also a member of Senior Sportsman Club and an Honorary Golden Age Member of U.S.D. #475 Athletic Club.
He married Roberta Wikinson in 1966. She passed away in 1976.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Roberta, several brothers and sisters and an infant son.
Survivors include four daughters, Sonya Baker and her husband David, L'Tanya Pugh, Daphne Maxwell and her husband Marvin and Derris Stewart, four sisters, Vivian Gill, Columbus, Ohio, Ruthie Evans, Florida, Effie Johnson, Cleveland, Ohio and Fannie Forge of Chicago, Illinios, Grandchildren, Jermaine and Stefan Pugh, Mardell "Mardee" Maxwell, Tobette Spriggs, Rashonda Stewart, Ashley Stewart and Dacia Stewart. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
He cherished in pets Sam, Nemo, Chaz, Brutus, Gus and Missy.
